Tests of surge arresters (valve lightning arresters)

The equipment we have allows us to carry out diagnostic tests of surge arresters (valve lightning arresters) operating (destined for operation) in power network system of any voltage level including HV system. We carry out the tests:

• spark gap surge arresters,
• non-spark gap surge arresters.

Tests of surge arresters are carried out above all on-site. The transportable voltage test sets allow to carry out on-site measurements of surge arresters even at the hard to reach places of switchyard at transformer substations.

In the scope of tests we carry out:

• measurements of a static ignition voltage (for spark gap surge arresters),
• measurements of a peak value of the control current (for spark gap surge arresters),
• measurements of reference voltages (Uref) for the reference currents given by a manufacturer,
• measurements of correct operation of surge arrester's operation counters,
• inspection of connections of surge arresters to the switchyard grounding system at transformer substations.

During the tests the correctness of selection of surge arresters' parameters is analysed.
